Overview
In 2024, I founded and currently serve as Chair of the Coastal and Marine Wildlife Working Group (CMWG), an official working group within The Wildlife Society. Our mission is to foster collaboration among researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to promote sustainable solutions that benefit both wildlife and coastal communities. The CMWG is committed to advancing conservation for species like sea turtles, dolphins, fisheries, and seabirds through interdisciplinary cooperation and innovation.

Building a Community for Coastal and Marine Conservation
Mission & Purpose
The CMWG was created to fill a gap for professionals dedicated to safeguarding coastal and marine ecosystems. Our mission is to unite researchers, practitioners, and policymakers in advancing conservation for species and communities at the land-sea interface.
Key Initiatives
From webinars and workshops to conference sessions, policy tracking and engagement, the CMWG provides resources and opportunities for professionals to exchange knowledge, foster connections, and address critical threats to wildlife and habitats.
Accomplishments
The CMWG has grown to a network of over 60 members. We’ve established a system to track professional opportunities, launched a monthly newsletter to share updates and resources, and are actively planning webinars to bring members together.
Future Goals
We aim to launch a mentorship program connecting early-career professionals with experienced leaders. Additionally, we plan to enhance our resource-sharing efforts, ensuring members have access to the latest tools, funding opportunities, and best practices to advance their work.
